Der italienische Kultregisseur Pasolini interpretierte mit "Edipo Re - Bett der Gewalt" das Drama "König Ödipus" vom altgriechischen Dichter Sophokles. Die Handlung splittet sich in einen zeitgeschichtlichen und einen antiken Teil auf. 1920: Eine bildhübsche Frau stillt ihren Jungen auf einer Wiese. Dessen Vater fürchtet insgeheim, dass das Kind ihm die Frau wegnehmen wird. Im antiken Griechenland setzt König Laios (Luciano Bartoli) seinen kleinen Sohn Ödipus (Franco Citti) aus. Das Orakel von Delphi hatte dem Monarchen prophezeit, dass dieser Sohn ihn töten und mit dessen eigener Mutter - Laios' Frau - schlafen wird. Die Vorhersage soll sich trotzdem erfüllen: Ödipus, aufgewachsen beim König von Korinth, hat einen Streit mit Laios, ohne ihn zu kennen. Der Disput endet damit, dass der Junge seinen Vater erschlägt. Weil er eine Sphinx getötet hat, darf er Iokaste (Silvana Mangano) heiraten, die Witwe des verstorbenen Königs...

In ‘Edipo Re – Bed of Violence’, the iconic Italian director Pasolini adapted the drama ‘Oedipus Rex’ by the ancient Greek poet Sophocles.

The plot is divided into a contemporary and an ancient section. 1920: A beautiful woman is breastfeeding her baby boy in a meadow. His father secretly fears that the child will take his wife away from him. In ancient Greece, King Laius (Luciano Bartoli) abandons his young son Oedipus (Franco Citti).

The Oracle of Delphi had prophesied to the monarch that this son would kill him and sleep with his own mother – Laius’s wife. The prophecy is nevertheless set to come true: Oedipus, raised by the King of Corinth, has a quarrel with Laius, without knowing him.

The dispute ends with the boy killing his father. Because he has slain a sphinx, he is permitted to marry Jocasta (Silvana Mangano), the widow of the late king... Following the screening, there will be a Q&A session with the audience, moderated by Olivia López
