AMORE ist eine poetische, vielstimmige Erzählung, die im tiefsten Sizilien während der Rituale der Karwoche spielt. Im Mittelpunkt der Geschichte stehen zwei Jugendliche, Clara und Paolo, die sich zwischen Tradition und persönlichem Reifeprozess bewegen, in einer Welt, die zwischen dem Heiligen und dem Alltäglichen schwebt.

Zwischen gregorianischen Gesängen, vermummten Bruderschaften und jahrhundertealten Ritualen – wie dem Transport des symbolischen Hahns oder der Einkleidung der Bruderschaftsmitglieder – suchen die beiden Jugendlichen ihren Platz, der eine im Glauben und in der Stille, die andere in der Musik und in der Stimme. Ihre Leben berühren sich durch kleine Gesten, gestohlene Blicke, Gegenstände, die von Hand zu Hand gereicht werden: eine Brosche in Form eines Violinschlüssels, ein gemeinsam gesungener Gesang, eine nur für einen Augenblick angehobene Kapuze.

Während sich die Stadt unter der Last des Rituals und der Erinnerung verwandelt, erleben auch Clara und Paolo ihre persönliche Auferstehung: Sie steht vor dem ersten Zyklus, er vor dem Übergang ins Erwachsenenalter, geprägt von einer rituellen Aufgabe. Die Begegnung der beiden, wenn auch flüchtig, wird zum Symbol einer tieferen Verbindung, die in der Musik und in der Stille eine gemeinsame Sprache findet.

Zwischen Caravaggio und Dürer, Gregorianik und Pop, Blut und Blumen ist AMORE ein Werk, das das Heilige mit dem Erlebten, das Geheimnisvolle mit der Zärtlichkeit, die Initiation mit der Hoffnung verwebt. Eine einfühlsame Reflexion über Verwandlung, Gemeinschaft und die Kraft kleiner, gemeinsamer Gesten.

AMORE is a poetic, ensemble-driven tale set in the heart of Sicily during the Holy Week rituals. At the centre of the story are two teenagers, Clara and Paolo, who navigate the balance between tradition and personal growth in a world suspended between the sacred and the everyday.

Amidst Gregorian chants, hooded brotherhoods and centuries-old rituals – such as the procession of the symbolic rooster or the dressing of the brothers – the two young people seek their place in the world, one in faith and silence, the other in music and song. Their lives touch upon one another through small gestures, stolen glances, objects passed from hand to hand: a treble clef-shaped brooch, a shared song, a hood lifted just for a moment.

As the city transforms under the weight of ritual and memory, Clara and Paolo too experience their own personal resurrection: she faces her first cycle, he the transition to adulthood marked by a ritual task. Their encounter, however fleeting, becomes the symbol of a deeper bond, which finds a common language in music and silence.

 

Between Caravaggio and Dürer, Gregorian chant and pop, blood and flowers, AMORE is a work that intertwines the sacred with the lived experience, mystery with tenderness, initiation with hope. A delicate reflection on transformation, on community and on the power of small, shared gestures.

AMORE è un racconto poetico e corale ambientato nella Sicilia più profonda, durante i riti della Settimana Santa. Al centro della storia ci sono due adolescenti, Clara e Paolo, che si muovono tra tradizione e crescita personale, in un mondo sospeso tra sacro e quotidiano.

Tra inni gregoriani, confraternite incappucciate e rituali secolari – come il trasporto del gallo simbolico o la vestizione dei confratelli – i due ragazzi cercano il proprio posto, l’uno nella fede e nel silenzio, l’altra nella musica e nella voce. Le loro vite si sfiorano attraverso piccoli gesti, sguardi rubati, oggetti passati di mano: una spilla a forma di chiave di violino, un canto condiviso, un cappuccio sollevato solo per un istante.

Mentre la città si trasforma sotto il peso del rito e della memoria, anche Clara e Paolo vivono la loro personale resurrezione: lei affronta il primo ciclo, lui il passaggio all’età adulta segnato da un incarico rituale. L’incontro tra i due, seppur fugace, diventa il simbolo di un legame più profondo, che trova nella musica e nel silenzio una lingua comune.

Tra Caravaggio e Dürer, gregoriano e pop, sangue e fiori, AMORE è un’opera che intreccia il sacro con il vissuto, il mistero con la tenerezza, l’iniziazione con la speranza. Una riflessione delicata sulla trasformazione, sulla comunità e sul potere dei gesti piccoli e condivisi.

 

LA VIAGGIATRICE (The Traveler ) [OmeU] IT, 2016 R: Davide Vigore, 15 Min.

Kann einem Mädchen seine Jugend geraubt werden? Hind arbeitet seit Jahren als Pflegekraft im Haus einer älteren Dame; sie verbringt ihre Tage damit, immer wieder dieselben Aufgaben zu erledigen. Ihr Leben ist eine endlose Routine aus identischen Tagen, ein Leben in einer ewigen Gegenwart, in einer verzweifelten Erwartung auf etwas, auf jemanden. Am Abend, nachdem sie die ältere Dame zu Bett gebracht hat, zieht sie sich in ihr Zimmer zurück, einen Ort voller Träume.

Es ist die ältere Dame selbst, die ihr die Bedeutung der Jugend bewusst machen wird.

Can a girl’s youth be stolen from her? Hind has been working for years as a carer in an elderly lady’s home; she spends her days doing the same tasks over and over again. Hers is an endless routine of identical days, living in a perpetual present, in a frantic wait for something, for someone. In the evening, after putting the elderly lady to bed, she retreats to her room, a place full of dreams.

It is the elderly lady herself who will make her realise the importance of youth.

Si può rubare la giovinezza a una ragazza? Hind lavora da anni come badante a casa di un'anziana signora; trascorre le sue giornate svolgendo sempre le stesse mansioni. La sua è una routine senza fine fatta di giorni identici, vissuta in un presente perpetuo, in una frenetica attesa di qualcosa, di qualcuno. La sera, dopo aver messo a letto l'anziana signora, si ritira nella sua stanza, un luogo pieno di sogni.

Sarà proprio l'anziana signora a farle capire l'importanza della giovinezza.

Girolamo Scimone ist ein 65-jähriger Mann, der in einem düsteren Palermo lebt. Zurückhaltend und verschlossen gegenüber der Außenwelt, hatte Girolamo schon immer ein schwieriges Verhältnis zu Frauen, die ihn nie attraktiv fanden. Sein einsames Leben verliert sich in den Straßen der Innenstadt von Palermo, wo er seine Zeit zwischen seiner zwielichtigen Arbeit als Zuhälter und der magischen Welt der Pferde verbringt, seiner einzigen und maßlosen Leidenschaft. Diese tägliche Routine erleidet einen heftigen Rückschlag, als Girolamo dem schüchternen und ängstlichen Blick von Victoria begegnet, einem jungen ukrainischen Mädchen, das unter Vorspiegelung falscher Tatsachen nach Italien gekommen ist. Zum ersten Mal in seinem Leben spürt er in sich seinen einzigen Wunsch: das Unvorhergesehene zu erleben.

Girolamo Scimone is a 65-year-old man who lives in a shadowy Palermo. Shy and reserved in his dealings with the outside world, Girolamo has always had a troubled relationship with women, who have never found him attractive. His solitary life is lost amongst the streets of central Palermo, where he divides his time between his shadowy work as a pimp and the magical world of horses, his sole and unbridled passion. This daily routine comes to a violent halt when Girolamo finds himself meeting the shy and frightened gaze of Victoria, a young Ukrainian girl who has arrived in Italy under false pretences. For the first time in his life, he feels within himself a single desire: to experience the unexpected.

Girolamo Scimone è un uomo di 65 anni, che vive in una Palermo oscura. Schivo e riservato col resto del mondo, Girolamo ha sempre avuto un rapporto conflittuale con le donne, che non lo hanno mai trovato attraente. La sua vita solitaria si perde tra le vie del centro di Palermo, dove impegna il tempo tra l’oscuro lavoro da sfruttatore e il magico mondo dei cavalli, sua unica e smodata passione. Questa liturgia quotidiana subisce una violenta battuta d'arresto, quando Girolamo si trova a incrociare lo sguardo timido e impaurito di Victoria, giovane ragazza ucraina giunta in Italia con l’inganno. Per la prima volta nella sua vita, egli avverte dentro di sè il suo unico desiderio, vivere l’imprevisto.

Pietro hat einen großen Traum: Er möchte mit seinem Pferd Dream am Palio di Buonriposo teilnehmen. Seine Hoffnungen werden jedoch von seinem Vater zunichte gemacht, der lieber seinen ältesten Sohn Peppe für das Rennen anmelden möchte. Pietro scheint bereit zu sein, das Rennen aufzugeben, doch seine Begegnung mit Elvira lässt ihn seine Meinung ändern. Die Zeit ist gekommen, erwachsen zu werden. 

Gewinner des Preises für den besten Kurzfilm beim Taormina Film Fest 2022.

Pietro has one great dream: to race his horse Dream in the Palio di Buonriposo. His hope, however, is dashed by his father, who prefers to enter Peppe, his eldest son, into the race. Pietro seems ready to give up on the race, but his encounter with Elvira will prompt a change of heart. The time has come to step into adulthood.

Pietro ha un grande sogno: far correre il suo cavallo Dream al Palio di Buonriposo. Le sue speranze, però, vengono infrante dal padre, che preferisce iscrivere alla corsa Peppe, il figlio maggiore. Pietro sembra pronto a rinunciare alla gara, ma l’incontro con Elvira lo spingerà a cambiare idea. È giunto il momento di diventare adulto. 

 

Vincitore del premio come Miglior Cortometraggio al Taormina Film Fest 2022.

Davide Vigore completed his training at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (director) and then worked as an assistant to Paolo Sorrentino and Pietro Marcello. His short films and documentaries have been selected for various festivals, including Venice, Cannes, Bellaria, and Taormina. In January, the Babylon hosted Davide for the presentation of his latest work 'Nella mia zona' (In my block,2025) and his debut feature length documentary 'Fuorigioco', (Offside, 2014) about the life of Maurizio Schillaci.

Riccardo Cannella is a multi-award-winning director, producer and screenwriter who has won 10 international awards for Best Director and 3 for Best Screenplay at prestigious festivals in Los Angeles, Miami, Bilbao, Giessen and other cities. With a career dedicated to digital series for cinema and the internet, he founded the Sicily Web Fest, a festival of international significance that attracts professionals from all over the world to Sicily.
