Dokumentarfilm über den Alltag einer Sami-Familie und deren Überlebenskampf im nordischen Winter. Im Zentrum des Geschehens: Inka, eine junge Frau, die die großen Rentierherden hütet und sie gegen Angriffe von Wölfen verteidigen muss. Höhepunkt ist eine beschwerliche Fahrt mit dem Rentierschlitten zum Jokkmokk-Markt, dem wichtigsten sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Treffpunkt der Region. Dann trifft die Protagonistin ein Schicksalsschlag, doch es gibt Hoffnung. Nahaufnahme einer menschliche Existenzform, die unendlich fern scheint und doch eigenartig berührt.

Documentary about the everyday life of a Sami family and their struggle for survival in the Nordic winter. At the center of the action: Inka, a young woman who takes care of the large reindeer herds and protects them from attacks by wolves. The highlight is an arduous ride on a reindeer sleigh to the Jokkmokk Market, the most important social and economic meeting place in the region. Then the female protagonist has to cope with a tragedy. But theres hope. Close-up of a human form of existence that seems infinitely distant and yet curiously touching.
