O Dia Que Durou 21 Anos - Cinebrasil (OmeU) BR, 2004, 77 Min, R: Camilo Tavares

The documentary examines the role played by the United States in the 1964 coup d’état and during the military regime that lasted for 21 years until 1985.
It examines the role of its main interviewee, Ambassador Lincoln Gordon, who managed a staff of 1,200 and a substantial budget intended to fund studies (through the IPES – Instituto de Pesquisas e Estudos Sociais and the IBAD – Instituto Brasileiro de Ação Democrática) as well as to disseminate propaganda aimed at destabilising the government of President João Goulart.
The military dictatorship could also count on the support of major private corporations, which were represented in Brazil by the Brazil-US Chamber of Commerce and gave their unreserved backing to every move made by the regime. The narrative features not only original audio recordings but also confidential documents that attest to the US government’s inaction in the face of the arrests, torture, abductions and murders committed in the name of upholding the regime.
