Auf dem Weg zu ihrem neuen Zuhause verirrt sich die Familie und steht plötzlich vor einem geheimnisvollen Gebäude mit einem Tunnel.
Jenseits des Tunnel liegt eine verlassene Stadt, wo sich Chihiros Eltern in einem Restaurant gierig über das bereitstehende köstliche Essen hermachen – und alsbald in Schweine verwandelt werden. Chihiro ist verzweifelt, wie kann sie ihren Eltern helfen?
Da taucht ein mysteriöser Junge namens Haku auf, der ihr erklärt, wie sie in der Zauberwelt überlegen und ihre Eltern retten kann: Sie muss in den Dienst der mächtigen Hexe Yubaba treten.
So arbeitet sie in deren gigantischem Badehaus für Götter und müde Geister. Doch um ihre Eltern zu befreien, muss Chihiro sich auf eine abenteuerliche Reise begeben, auf der sie ungeahnten Mut und eine bisher nicht gekannte Willenskraft und Ausdauer beweisen muss.

In this animated feature by noted Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki, 10-year-old Chihiro and her parents stumble upon a seemingly abandoned amusement park. After her mother and father are turned into giant pigs, Chihiro meets the mysterious Haku, who explains that the park is a resort for supernatural beings who need a break from their time spent in the earthly realm, and that she must work there to free herself and her parents.
