Ende einer Freundschaft Deutschland und Amerika nach 9/11, D 2026, R. Stefan Buchen, John Götz, 45 Min, Anschließend Gespräch mit den Filmemachern und Deborah Feldman und Teresa Koloma, Admission free - Eintritt frei!

Screened on the eve of the U.S. midterm elections, this premiere of the 45-minute cut offers a backstage look—featuring key historical figures from both the White House and the Kanzleramt—at the contrast between Germany’s public self-image and its actual behavior during the U.S.-led “Global War on Terror.” The film will be screened in German and English with subtitles (OmeU).

Following the film, we will expand on these themes to look at Germany today. Deborah Feldman  will ask Teresa Koloma Beck about her work on the ongoing disconnect between Germany’s international self-image and its new ethno-nationalism.

Afterwards, please join us in the cinema lobby for drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic)! I look forward to seeing you there—and please feel free to forward this invitation or bring friends.

Teresa Koloma Beck is Professor of Sociology at Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg. Her research focuses on violence, war, and conflict, as well as the affective and epistemic dimensions of social life.  Her piece “We As Germans Cannot Help But …” https://tinyurl.com/5y7annfz appeared in the Diasporist earlier this year.

Deborah Feldman is the author of Judenfetisch (2023) and Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots (2012).  Her piece “For the Love of Jews” appeared in the Berlin Review in March.
