LEMEBEL - Berlinale Teddy Award winner

BERLATIN Pride Edition: LEMEBEL [OmeU] Chile, Colombia, 2019, R: Joanna Reposi, 96 Min

Writer, Visual Artist and pioneer of the Queer movement in Latin America, Pedro Lemebel shook up conservative Chilean society during Pinochet's dictatorship in the 1980s. Body, blood and fire were protagonists in his work that he attempted to perpetuate in the last eight years of his life in a film he was never able to see finished. In an intimate and poetic journey through his risky performances dealing with homosexuality and human rights, LEMEBEL portrays a culmination of yearning immortality.

The Berlinale TEDDY AWARD''s Jury on LEMEBEL: This film gives life to an artist that survived and resist the repressive dictatorship and spoke for the rights of not just queer, but all minorities attacked and silenced in his country. It brings out the importance of resistance during this time where we see voices across the globe being muted.

This film is also creative in the use of archival footage and the proximity of the director to achieve an intimate portrayal of a persona that the world needs to recognize.

BERLATIN Pride Edition is organized by LATIN QUARTER Film Distribution in partnership with Babylon.
